Bad Actors

People who make deepfakes are sometimes known as "Bad actors". This doesn't mean they can't act! It means they are acting "badly".

Who are Bad actors?

• Scammers: AI voice clones of family members asking for money
• Fraudsters: fake video calls impersonating a CEO or official to trick companies into transferring money
• Bullies: putting someone's face on inappropriate images to humiliate or threaten them
• Political actors: fake videos of politicians saying things they never said, timed to influence elections
• Foreign states: some governments use deepfakes as part of larger disinformation campaigns
