The near future: More open models

Free, open-weight AI models are getting closer to the performance of models that people pay to use. Open-weight means that people can download and run a model, although they still cannot see its original training data.

Moonshot's Kimi K3 model topped the leaderboard on one benchmark test and matched the latest OpenAI model on another.

In the future, we will probably see both:

• Paid, closed models that focus on performance and support
• Open-weight models for people who want more control over their own AI
