Lesson 8: The Future of AI
Automation
Jobs have disappeared before. Lamplighters, who lit street gas lamps by hand, and knocker-uppers, who woke people before alarm clocks, disappeared when new technologies took over their tasks.
Many jobs still have not been automated, even after major advances in technology.
Physical tasks such as cooking and cleaning can be difficult to automate because collecting training data is hard and because of Moravec's paradox. Tasks that feel easy to humans can be surprisingly difficult for robots.
