Types of agents

There are many different types of agents being built right now. Some examples include:

• Coding Agents: they write code, find bugs, run tests, improve an app. Examples include Open AI's Codex, Anthropic's Claude Code and Cursor.
• Research Agents: they gather and organise information. Examples include Perplexity and DeepResearch (available in ChatGPT, Gemini and Claude).
• Experimental / Open Source Agents: they help people test new ideas about what agents might become. Examples include OpenClaw and AutoGPT.
