Lesson 7: Problem Solving with Vibe Coding and Agentic AI
STAR method for prompting
There is no best way to write prompts, but being specific in your prompts can help you get what you want.
Writing good prompts can help you frame the question you are asking, to specify what details you really need. It's important to think before you prompt.
Some people have developed “structures” that can help you write prompts. One method for writing prompts is called STAR.
STAR is an acronym, that means:
- Specific: What is the topic, problem, or background context?
- Tone: How should the AI sound?
- Audience: Who is the response for?
- Requirements: What are the specific rules or boundaries?
For example:
- I want to learn about native Australian animals. (Specific)
- The response should be informative and interesting. (Tone)
- I am a Year 7 student. (Audience)
- The response should focus on two animals only. (Requirements)
