Turing Test

In 1949 a British mathematician, Alan Turing, proposed a thought experiment related to the question: "Can a machine think?"

He came up with a practical test, called the Imitation Game, where a human judge chats (via text) with two participants - one human, one AI.

If the judge can't tell which is which, then the AI passes the "Turing Test". Remember this was only a thought experiment and Turing didn't implement it as there were no computers powerful enough at the time.

In 1956, this type of intelligence was named "Artificial Intelligence" and is now called AI.
