Lesson 1: What is AI?

Large Language Models

Around 2022, there was a big leap in AI with the introduction of more powerful and very large neural networks or models that work with text, images, audio and computer code.

In particular, Large Language Models or LLMs became very popular. You've probably heard of ChatGPT, which is an app that uses LLMs to generate text and images.

LLMs learn from huge amounts of online information, books, images and different sources and can follow instructions, reason through problems, and hold long conversations. When AI learns this way, we call it machine learning.

The data it is learning from is called the training data. The training data is what allows the model to generate new content, ideas and explanations.

Large Language Models

Different LLMs are trained on slightly different data but much of it is the shared. However, the models are not the same under-the-hood which means they can have different strengths and weaknesses. For example, some LLMs may be better at understanding and generating text, while others may be better at working with images or code.
