Lesson 2: Different Types of AI

Video

As computers have become more powerful and AI technologies have improved, AI video generation has become more common and more advanced.

There are lots of ways that AI can be used to generate videos and for different purposes. The table below includes some examples.

ApplicationDescription
Text-to-VideoAI can create entirely new video clips just from a short text description you give it.
Image AnimationAI tools can take a still image, like a drawing or photo, and bring it to life with movement.
AI AvatarsAI can generate realistic-looking digital human characters that can talk and move like real people.
Video Editing & EffectsSome AI tools can automatically remove unwanted objects, change the background, or even swap faces in a video.
AI DubbingAI can translate what someone is saying in a video into another language, and even change their lip movements to match the new words naturally!

Some examples of tools for generating AI videos include:

  • OpenAI Sora
  • Google Veo
  • Runway

Example of Image Animation

Below you can see an example of an image being animated with a generative AI video tool, Google Veo.

First, we found an image that we wanted to animate, which is shown below.

Next, we asked Google Gemini to animate the video and uploaded that picture. Gemini then generated the short video shown below.

It only took a few minutes for Gemini to generate this video from an image and a text prompt. Although the video isn't perfect, it's pretty amazing what AI can do in such a short amount of time and how realistic the video looks.

On the next page you'll learn about some of the concerns that people have about AI video generation when it is so realistic.
